I don't like choir music. It makes me queasy. But I like Lucia.
Today is St. Lucia Day, when the Nordics honor the Italian martyr whose name signifies either light or Lucifer. Across the region, girls and boys dress up in white gowns and sing songs in winter darkness holding lights. The lead singer, representing Lucia, has lights on her head. Sometimes lit candles.
We had a Lucia performance yesterday at work. It was a beautiful show until the lead singer fainted. I'm guessing she fainted from the pressure of performing on stage for half an hour wearing a crown of fire. But I'm wondering if maybe she too simply discovered she doesn't like choir music.
