Sweden is a pretty secular place. There's little room for Swedes to focus on other gods because they already have Astrid Lindgren.
The author is revered here, and her most famous character - Pippi Longstocking - is glorified by kids and adults alike. Me included. When I came to Sweden, I didn't know much about Pippi. I have seen the light.
This week, we made our way to Astrid Lindgren's World, the summer theme-park mecca of Pippi and Astrid Lindgren worshipers. Located in the town where Lindgren was born, the park was full of families wanting to see her stories come to life. There are shows with the characters, and kids flock around Pippi to hug and say hello to her. I tried to get a selfie with Pippi, but I couldn't get all the children out of the way.
It's a great place to go. Well worth the journey. We liked it so much, apparently we were last to leave.
Follow the blog to see who else I try to get a selfie with.
